Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa (born August 1, 1979) is an American actor and filmmaker. He made his acting debut as Jason Ioane on the syndicated action drama series Baywatch: Hawaii (1999–2001), which was followed by his portrayal of Ronon Dex on the Syfy science fiction series Stargate Atlantis (2005–2009), Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones (2011–2012), Declan Harp on the Discovery Channel historical drama series Frontier (2016–2018), and Baba Voss on the Apple TV+ science fiction series See (2019–present). Momoa was featured as the lead of the two lattermost series.
Since 2016, Momoa portrays Arthur Curry / Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), headlining the eponymous 2018 film and its 2023 sequel. Momoa also played Duncan Idaho in the 2021 film adaptation of the science fiction novel Dune.

Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is the son of Coni (Lemke), a photographer, and Joseph Momoa, a painter. His father is of Native Hawaiian and Samoan descent; and his mother, who is from Iowa, is of German, Irish, and Native American ancestry. Jason was raised in Norwalk, Iowa, by his mother. After high school, he moved to Hawaii, where he landed a lead role, beating out of thousands of hopefuls in the TV series Baywatch (1989) (known as "Baywatch Hawaii" in its 10th season). When the show ended, he spent the next couple of years traveling around the world. In 2001, he moved to Los Angeles, where he continued to pursue an acting career. In 2004, after the short-lived TV series North Shore (2004), he was cast as the popular character "Ronon Dex" in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis (2004), which achieved a cult-like following. In 2010, he appeared in the Emmy-nominated HBO series Game of Thrones (2011), playing the Dothraki king, Khal Drogo. To illustrate to the producers that he was Khal Drogo, he performed the Haka, a traditional war dance of the Maori of New Zealand. The audition was with the same casting director who was casting the titular role in the reboot of Conan the Barbarian (2011). Four weeks after being cast as the popular Robert E. Howard character, Momoa began shooting in Bulgaria. His approach, like that of the filmmakers, was to pull from the eight decades of comics and stories as well as the Frank Frazetta images rather than the hugely popular 1982 movie. Jason has a production company, Pride of Gypsies, in which he is expanding his career from actor to filmmaker. He has directed a couple of short films and is working on his feature film debut Road to Paloma (2014), which is pulled from a series of stories that he's been developing over the years, which he calls the Brown Bag Diaries: Ridin' the Blinds in B Minor (2010). Jason lives with his wife, actress Lisa Bonet, with whom he has two children, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf.

Non, il n'y a pas qu'au générique de la série Game of Thrones que Jason Momoa apparaît. Le comédien a un CV bien rempli. Il a tout d'abord fait ses débuts dans Alerte à Malibu aux côtés de Pamela Anderson. Attention, c'est la version imberbe de l'acteur que vous découvrirez. Il a ensuite joué dans le soap North Shore : Hôtel du Pacifique.
On passe ensuite à la science fiction, puisque Jason Momoa a tenu l'un des rôles principaux de la série Stargate Atlantis des saisons 2 à 5, dans la peau de Ronon Dex. Il a ensuite fait un rapide passage dans The Game, avant de décrocher le rôle de Khal Drogo dans GOT, pour deux saisons (et oui, seulement).
Il a ensuite joué dans la série The Red Road, drame policier inédit en France. Enfin, depuis 2016, il est le personnage principal de la série Frontier (disponible sur Netflix en France). Si vous n'êtes pas très série télé et que vous préférez vous inoculer de petites doses de Jason Momoa de temps en temps, sachez que le comédien de 39 ans a une filmographie très diversifiée. Pour celles et ceux qui adorent les films de superhéros, il y a bien évidemment les films du DC Universe où apparaît Jason Momoa dans la peau d'Arthur Curry, alias Aquaman : Batman vs Superman : l'Aube de la Justice / Justice League, et Aquaman.
Il a par ailleurs campé Conan le Barbare dans l'adaptation de la bande dessinée sortie en 2011. Dans un genre différent, toujours adapté de Comics, Jason Momoa est à l'affiche du film policier Du plomb dans la tête, adapté de la BD éponyme.
